just traded for a super a that had been filling with rain for 20 years. i took the head to the local shop and discovered 7 bent valves. how could this be? i could undersatnd the 2 i beat out with a hammer but the rest were free.

Did the pistons show any sign's of hitting the valves? If they were not adjusted with enough clearance the pistons may have hit them. I don't
think the engine would run then. I would check that timing gear too, just to make sure the woodruff key isn't sheared or was installed wrong. Since we don't know if the engine ran I would check the length of the new valves against the old ones if possible. Hal
