clean high idle jet. If a small bit of the needle packing material comes loose and get's in the needle seat it will cause those symtems

Obviously you are getting gas into the carb, but apparently not enough. The reasons for this happening are many. The needle valve could be partly stuck, the float may be not dropping enough, the fuel inlet screen may be plugged, the fuel line itself could be plugged, the sediment bowl probably needs cleaned, including the fine mesh screen that sits on top of the glass bowl, the inlet into the sediment bowl might be plugged, and finally, there may so much rust and crud in the tank that it won't matter what you do, everything will just plug up again.

I have a 1948 H that has the same problem as yours. It runs for a while (2-3 minutes and then bogs down like it is running out of gas. To date I have cleaned the screen on the shutoff, replaced the fuel line, replaced the fuel filter, and rebuilt the carb, including float (as of 6/10/06). I have tried running the tractor while shaking from side to side (should it be something in the tank) nothing seems to work. I am looking for answers myself should anyone knows by chance. My guess is the gov next. Thanks, in advance, for any assistance.

If your fuel filter is one of those "in-line" filters, get rid of it. You don't need it, and if it is not the correct type of filter, it will restrict the flow.

Rusty Farmer,

Thanks for the infor. I had replaced an in line filter that was on the tractor when I purchased over a year ago. Replaced with new fuel line and tractor started up and ran. Thanks, again...

Have you checked the float and also to make sure you have a good flow of fuel to the carb ( clean Screens And the bottom of the tank & Inside the tank) ?
