Is antifreeze in the oil ever a minor thing?

I was getting my 350 utility ready for mowing, and when I changed the oil I noticed there was quite a bit of anti-freeze in the oil. I don't have the time, knowledge or money to make any major repairs, but before I write it off as a project tractor for someone else, I want to check and see if anti-freeze in the oil is ever anything minor.

Let me know. I hate to sell it, but I can't stick a ton of work into it either.

As long as I am on the topic, how much could I expect to get for a 350 utility gasser, TA, decent paint, good rubber, fast hitch, but with anti-freeze in the oil. Starts and runs good.

I replaced a head gasket on my 400 because of the same problem. Head looked good, so I hoped it was fixed. No such luck. Bought the best Stop Leak the NAPA man had. Problem gone. It looked to me like someone had a tough time installing the #4 liner and I hope that the was the source of the leak. Good Luck with the STOP LEAK.

I had a M with coolant in oil a few years ago. Never was able to tell exactly where leak was but was able to determine it was somewhere below sideplate into water jacket. Not having much to lose I poured in 2 bottles of Prestone Heavy Duty stopleak and started running tractor. several years and sveral hundred hours later it is still leak free.

Depends. If you call a leaking head gasket or a cracked head minor. If not, then unlikely you will consider it minor as those are the two most common sources for anti-freeze in the oil. A cracked block comes next in line.

To me the gasket is minor, head a bit more as there is more cost in the fix, and a cracked block pretty major as most will put in an overhaul kit if they replace the block.

To make sure you really have an issue to deal with, drain off the antifreeze (loosen the drain plug until the antifreeze drips out then when it stops or oil starts to come tighten it back up) put some pepper or other block sealer in the radiator and run it. After it sets overnight, check to see if you have antifreeze in the oil again, and go from there.
