With that setup you'll need a crank girdle to support the center main bearing or you'll pull the center main out of the block

Thanks for the input, Chuck. I was thinking that a stud girdle would be a good idea, but I had not looked into who made one yet. I think it will be fine at low boost and lower RPM like I will pull it right now.

However, in the near future a girdle will be in order. Do you know of a good place to get a girdle and extended studs, or is that going to be something I just have to have a machine shop build up for me?

Any input on that would be very appreciated.

That's interesting. How much boost are you planning to add to it? Can't tell from the pictures but it appears you are running it nonintercooled correct? Still though interesting project.

Hehe...see that big black thing on the rear side of the engine? That is an intercooler from an 86 Thunderbird.

I am planning on running as much boost as it will possibly handle. I plan on running race fuel and injecting water in the near future. At first I will start pulling with the factory wastegate setting of 7-8psi. The compressor will comfortably run 30psi up to 3000 RPM on this engine. If I can make it hold together at that level, I will do it. That will put the engine around 275HP and 500lb/ft of torque. However, I have to get frame connectors and a scatter blanket before I start thinking about trying that RPM level. I dont want the flywheel to saw me or someone else in half if it decided to come loose or explode.

It is most likely that I will hold RPM to around 2500 and just concentrate on getting boost up to the high 20's or 30psi as the ultimate goal.

Someone mentioned RPM level, and I have that under control. I have a Mallory 3RLI ignition box going on the tractor, and it has a two stage rev limit setup. I am hoping to use the first to build boost before dropping the clutch and switch to a higher limit while pulling. I have to rig up a switch mechanism on the clutch or throttle to make that work. It will be later on after the bugs are worked out, of course.

Thanks Steve for putting these up for me, and thanks guys for the kudos.

I will get a few more pics when I get the hood on and the wheels/tires on it. Hood fits over all this, BTW. I will also post some pics after I get the custom wide front, steering all that good stuff done. I plan on lowering the front end a little hence the turbo up pipe leaning back right now :).

Nice conversion to say the least! But I think Id put a tach on that thing to monitor the RPMS.With no governor, all that work will be for nothing.

Thanks. I am pretty happy with it. I just got the fuel pump and filter on and it kindof uglied it up, but I can make some side panels to cover it. Inline EFI pumps are just not pretty.

I am very excited to see how it pulls. There are two pulls in a month, so we will see then.
