I opened up the transmission in my 68 International harvester diesle,to find that there wasnt any oil in there. The was about 2 inches there.Should there be more? Also the rearend wasnt full at all, almost dry.I got this tractor last winter from a "supposed dealer".....should this have a lot of oil in the transmission with the top off?
Also,i posted about the bushing gone in the reverse gear.
It ground out last winter, and "fell out"..I got a reply, but didnt get back ,till now.I am told that i should get a machine shop to make a bronze bushing for this gear, for i cant seem to get one here anywhere, only the back bushing..Ill have to get a pair of calipers to measure this am i right? Ill have to pick out all the small pieces of ground up bushing, before i put this together also.Did the bearing grind out of the gear from having no ,or not enough oil in the transmission?...Thanks, i hope someone can tell me more on this.

Well it would be real nice to know the model since there is a lot of 1968 model internationals . But the answer is yes , and not all jockeys tell the truth . Some of them when they die will be SCREWED INTO THE GROUND>

The tractor is a 434 international...thats all i know.Their was very, very little oil in the transmission.2 inches?..i didnt know this,of course,i thougnt it was full.It wasnt leaking either. Can this bushing be made ,and replaced, witout too much problems?.Proberly the housing that this gear shaft went into is now enlarged from the bushing being ground out....i am in a situation here....This tractor worked great, till all this happened. How full does the transmission have to be,also the rearend?..... Thanks again.

It seriously sounds like you need an operators manual real bad. I can understand that you would assume that the oil level was correct if you had just bought the tractor, but really you should check all fluid levels before starting each days work. Machine shops can make just about anything, but they need accurate measurments.

Well , i am not up on that model but if there is no outside leaks then mybe ya had better be looken at the engine oil level as i am thinking that the Hyd. pump is engine mounted and it just may have blowen the ft. seal . Now like i said that model is one that is not in my area.

Engine oil level is good....we thought we had checked the transmission oil level at the start of winter,,,it was not to the plug,,the check plug,,but i dont know how much oil should be there. The owner of the tractor has a manual for this tractor,,but wouldnt give it to me as i didnt want to pay the taxes at the time of purchase..he sold it to me cash money.Bad idea..huh?.....Glen
