I didn't grow up on a farm, so most of the tractors I saw were in parades. In the parades, I saw nothing but John Deere, which did not surprise me since we are only 60 miles up the road from Moline.

Today I took a ride from Dubuque, IA to Ames, IA for work, about 7 hours on the road. I saw all kinds of red tractors out in the fields. Then it dawned on me, if you want to see green tractors, go to a parade. If you want to see red tractors, take a ride across Iowa during planting season.

I am a little biased, since my one and only tractor is an IH, but there were far more red tractors at work, mostly IH. It was a great day for a drive.

Joe

I know exactly what you mean! I'm not here to pick on the JD guys...but you compare the H's, M's, 300's, 400's, etc...that you see everday across the countryside still working...and then you take a peak at the number of John Deere A's, B's, 40's, 50's and 60' still doing a job day to day. It just isn't even close. At least in this immediate area, two cylinders are for show, Farmall is for go.

One other thing to remember, back in the 40s & 50s there were a lot more red tractors then green coming off the assembly lines. It would only make sense that there are more now.
