I want to put a JD 158 loader on my 1466. I know that I need a set of brackets and have no idea where to look for a set and may have to make them, unless some one out there has some or some ideas where to go. ?? What other problems do I need to watch out for, or do you have any ideas or opinions??

Thanks for the input. I may have to make the brackets but it is going on. I may have to pick some brains or get those photos. I will let you know later. Thanks again.

Keep dreaming if you think you'll be able to buy a set of brackets... Unless you're stupid-lucky and just happen across an auction where some other guy has done the exact same thing, and just happens to have his set of modified brackets for sale separate from the loader. You can rest assured that no God-fearing, red-blooded John Deere engineer ever considered putting that loader on anything other than a John Deere tractor. To do so would've cost him his job. Why make it compatible with the competition's tractors when you can get the guy to buy a new Deere to go underneath that loader?

Nope, you're going to have to get out the torch and welder, and hit the old scrap iron pile...

If it's a quick-attach loader on stands that you can drive into, you should try it on for size. See if you can even get the tractor in there.

With the original brackets on the right tractor, take all kinds of measurements as to the location of the brackets relative to the most forward part of the tractor. Pay special attention to the width. Then, do what it takes to replicate that on your IH.

Hi Mr, I have a 148 loader on a 1086, had to make a couple small pieces to fit but it works real good. I think the 148 and 158 brackets are the same but not really sure. The loader and brackets are off and lying in my backyard if some pictures would help. Bill

I've seen a JD 245 loader go on a Case-IH Maxxum, so what you propose seems feasible. Not sure how, tho, I'd start with the factory brackets for the Deere 4020 and see how they could be adapted or made to fit, you mioght luck out and they bolt on. But remember, the Deeres are closed center and the IH's open center hydraulics, so you have to keep that in mind when adapting the hydraulics.

Mr. Roper,

Any loader will go on any tractor.

A welder, a torch and plenty of 'stock' material is most usually the order of the day.

Many (actually, too many) years ago my uncle bought a new John Deere 420 tractor with a 30 JD loader. In the operators manual, there were instructions for mounting the loader on other tractors. Also remember seeing in the JD garage at the time, a Farmall M with live pump getting a new JD 45 loader installed. I asked why a green loader was going on a RED tractor. Back then, I guess, kids were not to ask such questions. The JD dealer ignored me, and my uncle, who took me, just bought a new tractor, plow, loader, and blade. I sort of thought that he could have answered me..... I was not much older the next day when the IH dealer came to try to close a deal, only to see that a greenie was in place of the SC, yet he talked to me for maybe 10-15 minutes (and I was not old). Must have paid off, because for over 30 years, I bought almost everything from his IH garage, and NOTHING from that JD lad!!!!! !!!!! Sometimes a couple of innocent questions have a long answer..... ..QR..
