Can someone tell me if 1894J is the correct serial number for A farmall 140. I am trying to determine the year and cannot figure which number is right. The engine number is 351687-r8?

aperel: I figured it had to be a 58 as there were more than that built that first year. The J has nothing to do with serial number, letters indicate an option, in this case J stands for Rockford clutch.

The number 351687 R8, (8 doesn't sound right, it must be R3) is the engine part number, not the engine serial number. The engine serial number will be just below No.1 spark plug and will be stamped on a flat machined surface.

I am looking at the list of starting serial numbers? Where would 1894J fit in. There are only 4 numbers? You say 1962?
