I bought a 240 U and there is a lot of slop in the steering. The guy I got it from said there was something that could be flipped around and it would fix this. Some gear or something up front.
Any one know anything about this kind of a problem? Thnks for your help.

The 240 steering is basically the same as the C & S/C boxes. What the guy was speaking of was the gear inside box. It can be turned 180 degrees to eliminate a lot of the play. Front axle has to be removed and the gear assy can be removed from bottom.

Ute internationals (Diesels may have hydrostatic PS on some models) generally have mediocre steering boxes. The best solution is to get a used box and rebuild it while using the tractor. Then swap boxes, repair the original, and sell it. Some parts may require weldingup and regrinding to spec.
Good luck,
JimN
