I bought a set of straight fast hitch prongs for cheap. I would like to weld a Cat 1 ball sockets to the ends to use with 3pt equipment. What is the best way to weld the ball sockets to the straight prongs? The prongs are say half inch higher than the Cat 1 ball sockets when I fit them together.

I got a set from worksaver.com Work quite well. You can go to their website and see drawings of their units, and try to cobble up something similar. My suggestion, get ones made for the purpose.

I have seen the ones for sale at Worksaver but how much are they selling them for?

Tweeter;

I had the Cat2 and Cat1 adapter arms to go from FH to 3pt.for my 706. I used sleeves so the Cat 1 pins would fit the arms. My lift arms did not have enuf sway to swing out and in over the implement pin.

I have 4 farmalls with 2pt. Over the years I have bought several types of adapters, never found one I really liked. I now make my own. I take a standard 2pt draw bar, on the back where it turns down I weld a 7/8 by 6in long piece of steel, prior to welding it on, about an inch and a quarter from the end I cut a round bottom 7/8 slot about half way down,I then cut down a piece of quarter in tube steel so it will slide over the 7/8 by 6in piece. cut a matching slot in the slide piece so you have a lock down, Then I drill a hole in the top for a pin to lock it in place. If you weld it at the very top there is still room for the wagon tongue to go under it, I have 4 of these built, really handy just back under raise up and you are hooked, slide the lock sleeve in place pin it and go to work

Could you email a picture of your setup? Songs like a great idea and I do have a draw bar. My email is open.

Tweeter,

This is just my opinion now, so don't start hollarin' at me.

However, I'm of the opinion that those adaptors are the biggest pain in the southern hemisphere ever.

I'd trade tractors before I'd ever use another set of those squirrelly things. :>)

Well, I dont plan on trading tractors unless I can find a nice Ford hundred series or even a thousand series. So, why do you not like them tongs?

Tweeter,

They are just one royal pain in the keester to hook anything up to and then when you do finally get it hitched, they won't lift high enough.

I'm with you. I'd go Ford any day of the week prior to using the adaptors again (and I'm the guy that thinks the Fords ought to stay in town where they belong). :>)

You'll likely want the 3-pt eyes higher than the tongs-if the tongs are just straight-or you won't be lifting stuff high enough. Also need a rather low attach for top link to the tractor. BTDT.

So you are saying that i would be better off with tongs that are curved up then add a ball socket. How long should the curved tongs be if I measure end to end including the curve?

Tweeter, go to eBay and type in this item # 7601797717. This is the origonal type of adapter arms. Have used this type for years and like them. Easy hook up.

I'll measure the angle and length tommorow (farm is a mile away from computer). I have or have had 4 or 5 pair of tongs, some junk and this one good pair with proper length & angle.

I gotta 140 with the 1 point fast hitch. I converted my implements to 1 point fat hitch cause it s much easier to hook alone. Need some 1 inch flat bar and a torch to burn the hitch pattern and a welder to fit but will be worth it the long run,,,,, ,, trust me!!!!! !!!!!

Buddy: I wouldn't really give anyone that advive, fine for those little one point tractors, mild steel forks will stand all they will lift. That won't work on big tractors. It takes forged steel forks, to stand up to those heavier hydraulics.
