I have an IH 606D that needs a rebuild. I have seen several sources for "engine overhaul kits", does anyone recommend a particular brand? What is the difference between an in-frame kit and a regular one? (it has the 236D engine, and I disconnected the glowplugs and put in a JD ether kit - with good compression after the overhaul, should it be put back to glowplug starting?) Thanks

I don't remember who or where I heard it but I was told a few yaers ago that you should never use either with these engines. I think there was a forum a while back where someone said you should never use glow plugs and either at the same time. I personally have never had problems with the glow plugs but I think my head must be in real good shape also. It was designed for glow plug starting so if it were mine I'd revert back to glow plugs.

Either and Glow plugs at the same time would be something like a land mine. That 236 should turn over very fast when starting. A good starter, battery, and good conections along with good glow plugs it should start even with poor compression. So with a fresh OH should start very good.
