240 UTE:No relief on Hydra-touch ?

Ok, here's what I have on my 240 utility...per the parts book..."Three-Point fast hitch drawbar,...with traction control and tel-a-depth(special). Only one outlet on the hydra-touch that sends 2 lines to a check valve assembly under the seat that feeds out to the rear cylinder. It has the tel-a-depth quadrant to the right of the driver. Now the problem...with the quadrant control in either full up or full down, the pump continues to be under pressure and fluid runs out of the strainer under the dash. This doesn't seem right to me, however, this is the youngest of my tractors and the first I've ever had with any hydraulics other than a belly pump, so I'm clueless. Any ideas out there? Thanks, Kevin

Stays under pressure.
The hitch control valve must receive cancellation feedback from the hitch position to neutralize the valve. I know of two setups:
1. Has two control inputs to the valve. One input is the control handle and the valve cancellation is a control cable from the hitch.
2. Has one control input at the valve. The valve cancellation is accomplished in the mechanical linkage to the right of the seat.
If you have the control cable type system, you may have problems finding parts to fix it. IH dropped the control cable and went to a mechanical linkage. This may indicate that the control cable system wasn't that good of a system to start with. On mime, I fabricated the mechanical linkage system, since new parts for the control cable system are not available.
You can study the two different valve control systems in your parts book. K-Mo

Thanks! I do have the mechanical linkage, not cable. I just have not had time to reverse engineer(fancy word for take it apart and see what makes it work) it to figure out how it works.

First of all, have you replaced the O-ring around the Strainer cap?And check that the bolts are tight(20 ft#)Then Have you ever pulled the Tele-Depth apart yet?Thats the place to start.Theres about 10 O-rings in there and your bypass valve is in there too.The Block under the seat is basically a Distribution Point for your hitch Hydros.Do you have a IT Manual??Let me know,I"ll help where I can..(I"ve already done this Painful excercise) LOL

I have done very little thus far due to my inexperience with these 'late model' tractors. My usuals don't even date into the 1950's. I do not have the IT, I do have the TC53B parts manual, which, beleive it or not, has helped me tremendously get a few other problems solved. I'll take any help I can get, either here or by direct email. Thanks, Kevin
