Does anyone know where or have any info on the tractor line that never came to be. Pictures would be nice if there are any. I saw on a sight that mentioned a 5188 and other Farmall line ups that didn't make it to the market cause of the buy out. I've heard rumors that IH had a full powershift ready, which is now the Magnums powershift, but wasn't released cause of the Tenneco buy out.

Look at one of the 19 7288 2+2"s that survived the buyout. The rearend is pure magnum. Don"t know about the tranny though the one I saw had a $54,500 asking price on it 5 years ago and needless to say, they kept the doors locked.

The 5188 and 5000 were planned to be made by IH after 1985. One or both would be a powershift. I'm not aware of any photos of either tractor that were ever made "public".

In a Cab Engineering Report dated July 1985 there are drawings of the MAGNUM that are dated July/August of 1984..... .....

Tenneco had bought out J.I. Case back in the early 70's I believe so then the corp. was called Case Tenneco. The way I heard it from one of my teachers in Racine when I had to go to update school, he said that what more people in the corp. thought happened was IH bought out Case with Tenneco money because so much of the IH line continued on by the time they got the Magnum going and the Case stuff was dropped. I thought it was kinda funny coming from an old Case company man.

Guy Fay and Ken Updike are probably the best experts on this subject. They are sometimes on this site. Ken's book on Farmalls from 1955 to 1985 has some good information on this subject.
