I am looking for help on a stuck transmission. Engine runs great but will only run with the clutch depressed. It ran fine a week ago but it got cold (10-20) and sat for a week and now it wont budge. I tried to gently pull it in neutral just to get it to move but had no luck (chickened out a little). I am new to the tractor so I would greatly appreciate any advice.

I am surprised at the amount of water that gets in the transmission and in the rear end. We just do not drain and change like it ought be done after letting the equipment sit outside in the rain etc etc. It really becomes an issue in cold weather as you have found and a wear problem in the warmer climates.

Thanks for your help everybody. I will try warming it up and changing the oil then the shifter if the oil doesnt help. I'll post what works. Thanks again.

Matt your transmission has water in it, and it has frozen. I have run into this before and have had to put my tractor in an inclosed shed and put kerosene heater on it for a couple of hours to thaw it out then drain water and trans fluid and replace.

Well one of two things are going on here one she is stuck in two gears or she is froze up because of water in the transmission . If it is frozen then the only thing that is going to fix this is either a space heater and a tarp over the tractor if it is setting outside or in and unheated shed or warmer weather above freezen for a couple days then drain the trans and diff. and put new oil in it if it is stuck then pull the shifter and realign the shift rails and put it back together.

If the tractor has been outside with temp below freezing, you might have enough water in transmission to freeze it up.
