I have my 10si alternator on the tractor and I would like to know where the wire that I put a 1.6ohm resistor for "exciting it" starts and ends. Im pretty sure it comes off the number 1 post. Where does it go?

Where did the value of 1.6 ohms originate? When IH began to use the Delco alternators on tractors in the mid 1970's, they used a 25 ohm wirewound resistor for the exciter circuit. Lots of people love the bulb to prevent feedback to the ignition, but it is the least durable method. I think the resistor is the best, diode is next and bulb last. Resistors up to 50 ohms work fine- I have verified by trying them. I would not use less than 25 ohms. Use at least a 5 watt resistor.

Sorry, I meant 1.6 diode.

Ok that makes more since. It goes in the wire from the #1 terminal to the switch. The line on the diode goes towards the alternator.

The resistor should be 11 ohms. The nearest standard value is 10 ohms. Should be 25 watts.

That would go in place of the light or diode from what I understand, have one set up that way my self. So you go from #1 terminal then the resister and that then goes to the switch. The side of the switch that is hot when the switch is turned on/ or run position which ever you want to call it.
