Howdy all, is it just my computer or does anyone else have a problem with search engine for "past posts" on the Farmall site. It don't work, just says "sorry, no match". All other discussion board search engines do work for me but not Farmall so I can't search archives on this one. Hummm...strange.
Back to the PTO bearings and oil seal. I have pulled the PTO gear and pressed out the PTO shaft on my 1947 Farmall B but cannot figure out if the bearings will come out the same end as the shaft did (what is the inside of the casting like). The oil seal is right next to the outward bearing and there is no room for to push the big fat seal out with out buggering up the outer and inner bearings not to mention the bearing spacer. I can't tell from the shop manual I have, how to get them all out. If you've gotton the job done I'd like to hear from you. Thanks for any help.

Been a while since I did this so hope this is all correct. I'm assuming you have the PTO shaft out. To get that out, you first must remove the drive gear with a puller (after you take out the retainer bolt and washer on the inside end of the shaft. You can't drive the shaft out, because the woodruff key in the gear keeps you from doing that. Remove Woodruff key after gear is off and shaft should come out the outside end. Then the inside bearing should come out towards the inside fairly easily with a drift punch on the race or a puller. Then you should be able to drive the seal and the outside bearing out to the outside. If the seal is stubborn, drill a hole and use sheet metal screws to attach something to pull it out. It does not matter if you bugger up the old seal, as you are going to replace it anyway. My experience, these old thick seals usually come out in pieces. I don't recall this being especially difficult once the PTO shaft is out. Getting the gear off is the hardest part.
