I'm wanting to clean the years of grease and grime off my Cub Lo-boy. What do you guys all use? Do you have to worry about taking off paint or messing up the wiring?? Thanks

Lots of cans of Brake Cleaner....and a Wire Wheel on an angle grinder....and a putty knife and dental tools and small scrapers and screwdrivers....

Whatever you can scrape off, do that first, then some brake cleaner really will do wonders...it'll leave a nice surface.

Go to the nearest Dollar Store and buy the cheap buck-a-can spray oven cleaner. Spray it on, wash it off.

Whatever you do, DON't use gasoline as one below suggested!! Here's my sequence. Scrape off all you can by hand and with a scraper blade and wire brush. Then use a pressure washer which won't get it all. You might want to reverse the above and use the pressure washer first. Next get some Purple Power or similar degreaser from AutoZone or Walmart. Use a spray bottle to apply. You may want to use a respirator, as the mist from this stuff is pretty rough. Let is soak for a time and use the pressure washer again. Then you can clean up any stuff left by hand with the degreaser, a stiff brush and just a water hose. Needless to say, cover engine openings and your ignition stuff to avoid getting water in them.

Large areas: pressure washer; if it's really bad and not aluminum, oven cleaner first.
Small areas: spray can of Gumout.

Try using some Dawn Power Dissolver and then use a steam jenny or a power washer. Hal

For the entire tractor - steam clean if you have access to one . For parts or second choice for entire tractor - engine degreaser ( in the rattle can ) at the carwash . True steam cleaners are terribly expensive , the Hotsey brand washer we have at work is one , it'll heat water to over 220 degrees . It's hard to work with it when it's that hot as it takes paint off right now , right down to the bare metal . That's one way I stripped a crane boom a few years ago . You can rent portable units at constuction rental stores . Otherwise some stores sell a wand that you hook up to a air supply and the garden hose . They work pretty good if you can hook to the hot water from the house .

It is hard to beat gasolene! Just keep it away from sparks and fire, especially cigarettes.

I know a guy who would not recommend gasoline. He was wire brushing with gas around his starter and shorted a live terminal. He was out of work for a couple of months with a burnt hand. His John Deere was destroyed.
