Im confused about which w-6 I have?
I have the hyd hookup on R/side,but then I have the offset air filter that I see on most H,s& M,s,
I know that,s not right,
I also Need W-6 front wheel,s,sombody put an H wheel on the right side, and an M wheel on the left, really cobbed it up bad,
I looked at data plate,& it say,s 41,400,
so I know it,s a 51 W-6 standard,
I even saw an offset aircleaner on a super W-6,and was wondering if mine was one of those,
& sombody had taken the nice front wheel,s off of it,& put those silly H,and M wheel,s on it,
It pay,s to know what went on originally,so tractor look,s right,

You have a plain old 1951 McCormick W-6. To answer your questions, The "offset air filter" is a precleaner created by Donaldson. It was a factory option for all letter series tractors, standards, and industrials. Basically, if it is IH from 1940 to 1954, it might have it, it might not. There is no way to tell if it was there from the factory. I really don't understand the whole wheel thing. Most W-6's came standard with M front wheels. Only a select few came with the adjustable width wheels or the W-9 sized wheels. The farmer had to order those extra, unless it was one of the last few W-6's, which got them standard. Also, they aren't silly, as my 1951 W-6 has them along with 90% of the other W-6's. You don't hear us complaining about them. Your tractor is definitely not a Super W-6 because it was built in 1951. The Supers first came out in 1953 at the earliest. The hydraulics, again were another option. If it is an IH system, it will have the pesco gear pump on the distributor drive and a tank under the gas tank with remotes at the rear operated by a control valve to the left side of the seat. It was for the most part, dealer installed, or someone may have put it on. There is scarcely any difference between the W-6 system and the Super W-6 system, because it was live to begin with.

Hey chadd, you ever see a more cobbed up tractor
than this one?
Listen to this,
I was out in the yard yesterday wanting to check
the pressure on the tires,
I looked for the valve stem on the right rear rim,
looked underneath, and saw that someone had put the rim on backward,s,w/ the stem coming out underneath,(real dumb),
There is no lever to control the hydralic,s chad,
Just that little filler neck on right side of tank, with the little bolts on top of it,
Someone had jury rigged the hydralic tank,
and welded two filler pipes on left side, evedently the top one to fill and the bottom one to see if it needed fluid,
I think the guy that did this had too many beer,s
that day or something,haha,
Oh,also I bet the same person cut a square hole in the right side of hood to clear the alternator which he put on when it was switched from 6 to 12 volt, and also putting a key switch
in those little holes under gas tank next to shifter when he disconnected the foot starter switch, which had a made up round holder bolted next to it for an oil can,(or maybe his favorite brew which he could slew the day away,)haha, I took off yesterday, and threw in the trash,
You know what Chad?
Maybe this Isnt a W-6 at all,but an amalgamation
of part,s to look like a W-6,?
Oh Man, maybe It,s a Minnie, or a John Deere, or even a Massey, or a Cockshutt, painted red to look like an IH?
You never know about these thing,s?haha,
Anyway, thanks for the help Chad and keep in touch ok, IH nut kirk C,

Im not trying to be rude here, but what makes you think your W-6 is any different than any other?First,a few months back, you say the wheels aint right, now the air cleaner aint right. What is it? What is it that makes you think yours is any different than any other W-6 ever made.As I have told you once before, the wheels you have are probably the right ones, and possibly the ones that came on it.The only other ones are the ones with the wheel brackets on the rim,and the solid front hubs like I have seen on Orchard version, and yes even some regular standards. You air cleaner is most likely the factory air cleaner, all of them were offset to one side.Again,Im not trying to rude, and I appologize up front. But I just dont get this wheel deal.Sorry!
