This is our 1st winter burning corn. Doing pretty good. Really has cut the heat bill.
I dont have any grain storage so I kind of had to imrovise a way.

Picked up this older than old gravity box. This one was used as a fertelizer transport. Came with the Hydralic Auger attached. Had a few holes in it, but its amazine what some duct tape can mend.
I unload it into a smaller wagon holds about 50 bu or so. I was just dragging that to the garage with the mower. Wife didnt like it in there so now I use the little tank to keep corn at the house.

Of course it gives me a reason to start the tractor :-)

I just got a St. Croix furnace last week, started running 14% and then switched to about 11%, wow a big difference in heat output. It's now about 71degrees in the house at all times. The wife likes it alot better than me keeping it at 65 or so with propane. Is it just me or is it a different type of heat. You open the door and it feels like a wall of heat hitting you in the face. Almost like the difference between electric and propane heat. I'm very happy with mine so far, kept the propane furnace as a backup.

Just started this last fall, love it! Worst problem is getting clean corn, just bought a grain cleaner solved that problem. Second problem is that corn is normally stored a little too wet for a corn burner, still dealing with that problem. My stove uses about 11/2 bushels a day, but we keep the house very warm.

We got one of the Saint Croix models. Havent had any issues at all with the corn. Cob peices. bugs, sticks what ever. Havent had to clean corn at all.
Burns bin ready corn. Just buy it from the Farmer accross the rd.
I wont ever go back to a wood stove. Just pour in the corn and drop the klinker once a day. Thats it.

Do you have a stove or a furnace? I bought a newengland stove for my house and thinking it may go in the shop next year and a furnace model will take its place.

70 degrees here in Central Alabama today. Too hot to burn corn or drink it! I got some good outdoor stripping done on my Woods mower for the Cub. She's gonna be ready for grass cutting this spring, maybe earlier than I thought.

We will have purple martins here in about three weeks. I can't wait!! First harbinger of spring!

Peabody: Now, you are just trying to make we northerners feel bad. I know it really isn't going to warm up substancially, thus I wish it would stay 3 degrees colder and freeze, at least we wouldn't be in the mud. Sounds Like I got to get me one of those corn burners though.

We don't but know people who do, it's about a bushel a day, per stove, and thats there only heat. If we ever did that we'd get a 250 bushel feed tank outside, with a little auger comin in the house, that way we don't have to go outside in a blizzard. is that the 400 that went on a vacation? I'm lookin at one, real nice shape,$2500, i just need the cash to go get it.
