looking to buy 140-150hp tractor to pull strip till rig with. Was wondering if anyone on this forum had actual experience with an anteater and if so, how easy are they to operate. Any noticeable difference in the ease of driving compared to conventional 2wd tractor.I know center pin is one of main things to look at but what other things to check for on this tractor. Thanks for any replies

There's an 3588 anteater for sale up here in upper NY, for 13 K. Uglier than sin, but still better looking than anything in Hi-Crops or propane burners. I have heard that they were a basically decent tractor, but they would eat TA's if pushed too hard.

We had a 3788. They are nicer in hot weather because the engine is way out front, there's a cab firewall and fuel tank in between, and the fan blows out the grill not in through the grill. Just don't go at the fuel pump wanting a bigger tractor. IF the rubber coupling at the engine doesn't give the pressure plate probably will. I know this because I lifted the front of ours with my allis 7580, carried it home, and backed it into the shed, due to it not having any power anywhere but the electrical system.

I ran one for a couple of day it was a 3788 that was run hard and put away wet , if you could keep it in gear as the trans had a slight problem and the pice of equipment was a bit much for it and after ya figured out how to drive it i was getting to like it even though it was ugly and we realy needed a bigger tractor but i was not the one who got it so i just ran it , the 5 shank DMI disc chisel was a hard pullen pice digging down 16 inches in our soil with the tiger points but it sure made the differance in crops now it did handel the 24/6 foot DMI field culivator and crumbler well even on the hills and turned nice even in the smaller fields ya just had to learn when to turn before ya went thru the neighbors fence.
