The discussion last week about the correct serial no. as compared to the motor serial number. Now I have some more info on the casting codes. The only Z code is on the torque tube, everything else is Y code. Think its possible the tractor had a loader or something else that broke the original tube? Pat in Wisc

If you have 12 Y castings or even 11 Y or earlier on a couple and the Z is like 1 Z, I would'nt rule the tractor as having a non original casting or not having had a early 54 serial #.

What year does the serial number say it is. It is possible that it is a 54 with a number of 53 parts. My super H has a belt pully that was made in 53 yet the rest of the tractor was made in 54,
Andrew

The question originated because the chassis serial was missing. Pat has an engine and chassis serial list for many of the Super H's and determined that most, if not all have 2xxx (I forget his number) between the chassis and engine serials. The chassis serial of the tractor in question was determined from the engine serial making it a late 1953, yet it has a Z (1954) torque tube. My initial response was that you can't have Z castings on a 1953 tractor, and thought the engine had been replaced before Pat gave the explanation above.

Not as simple as a straight difference between engine and chassis - tractor 593J has a motor number of 605, a difference of only 12 while tractor 28846 has a motor number that is a difference of 4700 plus. Depended on how many SW4's were made during certain periods in the production runs. My email is unlocked if you would like a copy of the list. Pat

Yes, only logical that the list would get wider as more were produced -- I notice that the engine serials no longer have prefixes to indicate which tractor they are in. Never paid any attention to that until you wanted my serials.

Had tractor listed as for sale at L&L Parts and Equip some time back. Didn't have motor number. Sounds like an interesting tractor. Pat

Distillate SH (A)-- has the small tank? Relatively unusual -- But I know of someone that has a distillate Super HV.

Yes, it's possible, then the engine and calculated chassis serials make more sense.
