I have found that thr reason my tach is not working is because the cable is not getting driven by distributor,so something is not working inside the dist..... .I do not want to take the gear drive off the side of the dist. yet untill I talk to someone first that has allready had one apart..what do you think is wrong that it does not spin?If I take it off the side of the dist.,will it get out of time?...I put the cable in a drill and it runs tach . fine ..

Mark,

Like Dave said, it has "apple-cored" the driven gear.

Leave the distributor on the tractor so as to not get the engine out of time, pull the adaptor and drop in a new gear and you'll be good to go. :>)

there's a plastic gear in there that's stripped out - just take the cable off & the little bracket that's held on by 2 small bolts (screws?) then the gear will pull right out .....your case-IH dealer can get new ones (around $50) .....you won't affect the timeing - you'd have to take the distributor off to get it out of time
