Hi,

I purcashed a 1946 H and i've seen many Farmall H Pictures, and mine has a diffrent setup than most..... It has a Starter button on the Right of the light braket, than half way down the pole a ammeter, and then below it, the ignition switch.....Is this just somebodies Aftermarket setup. or is this normal? Most i've seen have a ampmeter and igntion siwtch together. and the starter button on the left hand side. Any help apprecaited. I ask this becasue i had the old button short out and casue problems so i have to order a new one....Also, the button shorting out and gettnig hot wouldn't have done any other damage, execpt drain the battery and ruin the starter button itslef did it?

Ryan

I grew up on 1947 H, drove it when it was fresh off the truck. It had starter button on left side of post about 18/20 inches from deck and magneto kill switch mounted in bracket that held control rod for lift all. Never saw an ignition or kill switch in box with amp meter and light switch until super models.

An H in our family had the Big starter push button on the light bar, as yours does. I think it was stock that way (as no one messed with it that I know of. It was 3 years older than me though).
There should be a lozenge shaped electrical box below the light bar on the right side, about 8" tall and 2-1/2 thick with rounded top and bottom. It should have both the light knob, and the push pull ign button, and an amp meter. The shorted switch should not have dammaged anything if it was shorted to ground. If it was shorted to the starter, and the starter ran until the battery was dead, there is cause to check the starter for damage, if it still does not work.
Good luck

Not sure on an H, but my M originally had the ignition switch almost at the bottom of the steering post, and the start button lever below that. The actual starter button was mounted in the back gas tank bracket.

Unless you are concerned about keeping your H authentic, I wouldn't loose a lot of sleep over it as long as it works. If you are, then you might want to consult a parts manual for your particular serial number range to determine what the original setup was.
