Never seen such a thing

I'm in the middle of restoring this SA and am putting it back together. Rebuilt just about everything including the touch control block. I went out to the shop this morning and saw hydraulic fluid on the floor dripping from the touch control block, cleaned it all up and off the tractor too so I could see where its leaking from. Seems, or so I thought it's coming from the filter flange, that long screen held in with 4 bolts. After cleaning it up and wipeing it with my finger to check for fluid, I found it's coming from the fill plug. So I tightened it up real good and left for the day. When I came back, it's leaking from the fill plug again. Can't tighten that N.P.T. plug anymore and the fluid is well below the threads on the block.
If I leave the plug out, it doesn't leak. I didn't know hyd. fluid could climb! Any ideas out there? Teflon tape?, Pipe dope?

On my SC, the hydraulic fill plug is not a pipe plug. It is the same as the drain plug in the oil pan. Putting the right plug in it fixed the leak for me.

Just a guess but I'd bet you have air in the system and its bubbleing out which is causeing your fluid problems. With the plug out it just let the air out with it in it builds up a little preassure and sort of pushes it up and out.

That might be but I havent even had the thing running yet. Maybe it will go away after it runs and the hyd. are topped off and cycled.

Scott: Old has it right on, having not had it running there is air down in there. When you start the tractor, remove the fill plug and work both hydraulic valves several times through their full stroke. You will get air coming out of system and it probably belch out a bit of fluid. You will probably need to top it off after, remember to do that with hydraulic levers in rear position. Hydraulic fluid level in resovoir increases slightly when rockshafts are in rear position.
