Adjusting PTO on 300u

On my 300u the PTO stops when under load. I have adjusted the bands as per the IT manual, but had to guess at punch mark on the quadrant.
When I asked, the guys on this site were pretty unanimous that the problem was the bands. When I move the operating lever to the off position the PTO does stop, in the run position is turns but stops when under heavy load.
Do I just adjust just one band now and if so which band do I try, the front (toward the front of the tractor) or the back? And, do I turn the screw in or out? and how much do I turn it?
I need that baby working so I am hoping it is the bands and I can get it, otherwise may have CROW for Thanksgiving.
Thank you for reading and any advise.

On the 300U IPTO the forward screw is for the PTO band, the rear screw is the brake/anti-creep band. Screwing in tightens the band in either case.

My technique varies from the book a bit, but I don't have your problem at full load.

With the engine off, back the adjustment screws out enough so the PTO shaft turns freely with the handle in any and all positions.

Screw the forward, PTO band screw in while the handle is in the "OFF" position until the PTO shaft no longer turns freely, then back the screw out just a bit more than enough so that the PTO shaft turns freely again.

Start the engine (the PTO shaft should be turning) and screw the rear (brake/anti-creep) screw in until the PTO shaft stops turning. If the engine loads up at all, you need to back the front screw out a bit more.

Provided your PTO drive band isn't trashed, this should get your IPTO to work without slipping at full load. Remember the basic idea of this procedure is to get only one band to grip at a time - if they're fighting each other they'll wear out quickly. Good luck!

Ive always thought that it is supposed to stop under excessive load to protect itself. When my brushchopper bogs down I shift to lower gear or raise until it winds up again.

Follow the procedure exactly from the IT Manual. I had to do it several times before it came out right. Set it then run it several times.

Your pto should not bog down. The pto clutches are slipping when that happens and will burn them up.The engine should pull down then you shift to a lower gear.

I have an independent PTO on my 330U and cant get it to stop running. I push down on the lever on the right hand side, the PTO keeps spinning and as I get farther down the tractor wants to shut off. The lever all the way down will bog out the engine. Is this problem associated with the adjusting of the bands?

Had the same problem on my friends 300U but don't remember which one that you need to play with to get it working right. Been about a year since I did that. All I did was start playing with them till I figured out which one did what.
