I put a lift all into my 48 H last winter, testing it out, when the ram fully extends or if you pull the lever with out a ram hooked up, the lever doesn't return to the neutral position it just stalls the engine. The hoses preasure up, but relief valve doesn't relief. I had the lift all unit completly disasembled and cleaned out. I added three 5/16 washers under the relief valve spring to increase the lift preasure a bit. I don't want to crack the pump housing, I want the relief valve to work.

Take out two of the washers or get a new spring and do away with the washer. You just may split the pump open . about 1250 lbs of pressure is all ya need and if that is not enough get a bigger cylinder.

Your cycl is extended and will have to be released with the control rod forward forward then you will have to push the ram shut physicaly as it is a single way system. You can make it two way by doing some piping and adding another control valve. Ssop pulling on the control handle unless you want to blow some seals.

No offense, GB, but what does that have to do with the question being asked? Whether he's using it the right way or the wrong way, the relief valve should kick in. The liftall is stalling the tractor here.

Yes, he's going to ruin the liftall if he continues to abuse it as he is, but re-plumbing it as a 2-way system isn't going to fix the relief valve issue...

Are all the liftall a fast hard drop with a loader installed. I mean there is not much of an ease of lowering, it just doesn't fall to the ground, but would like to let some heavy items down slowly. Or should I put a restrictive check valve in the hose. thanks chris

Restrictive check is good, there may be volume sensitive control valves that allow the same decent rate loaded or full.
We don't use restrictors on our H we just get used to the rod and feel of the wt.

I don't know if i made whats happening totaly clear. I pull the control rod back and let go of it, as the ram extends to full length, when it fully extends the control rod won't return to neutral position, it will stall the engine if you don't manualy hit the rod foward. it's not returning on it's own, like it should
