Put new 11.4-24 tires on my 140 last spring. Had them put water and anti-freeze in them. The right rear tire/wheel has a noticeable thump sound that occurs every revolution. It is louder when going down hill. It is a rubbery sounding thump, not metallic. It does it on concrete and on grass. It almost seems to shudder when the "thump" occurs. It did not do it with the old tire. It has got me stumped. The wheel lugs all appear fine. Is it possible the inner tube is kinked-up in some manner and the fluid racing around the tube is building-up and then suddenly releasing? The tire place that did the work is only five minutes away, but thought I'd ask the experts on this board to hear if anyone had seen (or heard) of this before.

Bill I used to have a problem with a Case 310. Like you I would tighten all the bolts to the rim but would still get a thumping sound. The bolts I discovered were worn and allowed just ever so slight a movement, creating a thump. I installed new bolts and torqued them and that ended the problem..tight isn't enough, must be new, unworn..good luck from Mike in Exeter Ontario

Bill- I noticed the same problem with my 140 a few weeks back and it turned out to be a loose rim on the left side. Once I jacked up the tire it was easy to tell where the problem was. I replaced all four bolts with new as the old ones had worn threads. The wheel disc on the left side is the light one and mine has oblong holes from years of wear. I suspect that this contributes to the bolts loosening up every couple of years. While you are at it check any wheel weight bolts and also the bolts in the center of the rim. I rarely find the center bolts loose.
If in fact it turns out to be loose bolts, I would suggest replacing with original type bolts if someone over the years has replaced them with coarse thread or soft bolts. This is common. The square heads don't turn in the square rim sockets when you go to tighten or remove them. I have had to drive a wedge in between a hex head bolt and the rim in order to keep it from turning. The fine thread seems to hold longer than the coarse thread.

Bill: Drive line noises can be very deceiving. My first reaction to a thump is something loose in relation to the wheels. Could be axle to hub, hub to rim or loose wheel weight.

On that tractor, next place I would look is in the final drive. Pay close attention to brakes, I once remember a chunk breaking out of brake drum on 130, it did make a thumping noise as long as it was flopping around loose. It also did some scraping and grinding when not flopping around loose.

Also check your front wheel bolts. They can be loose and the noise will travel.

Check the hardware carefully. Both the disc-to-hub bolts and the rim-to-disc hardware. Sounds more to me that you have something loose. Never heard of or saw a tube problem cause thumping. Could also be a bad bearing in the final drive.
