Im sorry about taking so long to get back to you with my M Engine #FBKM 1368 ME X1.Ive been real busy.I have a 1947 M.Is this the correct block?Any help appreciated.Thanks

OK,The engine casting #6722 DJ,Tranny casting # is 6002 DB,and the narrow front pedestal casting #6719 DB.I hope this helps.Thanks Guys

Serial number 1368 makes the engine a 1939. Going by your description of the tractor in the earlier post, I think it is safe to assume that the tractor is indeed a 1939. Either someone has changed the serial number tag, or as stated before, the torque tube that the serial tag is attached to has been replaced. In this case the torque tube was donated by a 1947 M. Another thing to look for would be the casting codes. This a rised number, located on just about every part of the tractor that is made of cast iron. It will appear as 7*14*I. The number 7 being the month, 14 is the day, and the letter I being the year, in this case 1939. A different letter was used for each year of manufacture. I-39, J-40, K-41, etc. Quite a few of the tractors made in 1947 actually had 47, instead of a letter. The letter for 1947 would be Q.

One problem,don't think any 1939 engines in M tractors were stamped with X1.

Correct, Guy Fay's data book says the first gas engine was in chassis serial 18144, that makes it late 1940.

So maybe we are all still in the dark here. I have never seen the X1 following the serial number on an engine, the tractor serial number yes, but not on the engine.

Also, the E means 8000 ft altitude, the M low speed attachment -- don't know why IH would put the M on the engine serial.

We need more info.Suffix codes should follow the X-1 on tractor engines. TFG are the # and letters all in straight line sometimes the X-1 is stamped below serial #? Also is the M E easy to read or could they be more numbers?

FBKM 1368 is the top line.Below it goes like this ME X1,and its plain as day-not hard to read at all.I'll get some #'s from castings and get back in a few minutes.Thanks Everyone.

Yep, they did also put the x1 on the engine serial number as well as the chassis serial number. Our W6 has the x1 on both, but our 1940 M has no suffix codes on either plate. Must have been something that they started later.
