I just bought a farmall c from a dealer in the classifieds. Went adn picked it up drove it around good oil pressure full of oil ran great. got home started it would not rev up, just alot of black smoke like its running rich, pulled in the shop was going to pull the carb off. I went to start it aagain and I think its locked up. The starter just clicked, grab the belts and could not get it to go around (with the plugs out) tried rolling it in gear and engine wont turn over. what are you thoughts on what happened?

I aggre with the stuck starter and needle valve opinion But I wouldn't loosen the starter and try to crank it. That could be a real problem should the starter gears bind. The drive end could be completely destroyed. (don't ask) simply loosen the starter bolts several turns past where the lock washers relax the get ahold of the end and shake the livin tar out of it you should feel the hung gear release. the run the bolts up tight and crank. Then go to TSC and get a overhoul kit and fix the carb.
Back in fine shape in under 2 hours. Not counting the drive to town.

Yep Hal is right could be the starter or the gas washing down the cylinders. I'd pull the starter and check it out and also fill the cylinders with tranny fluid and then give it a try with the plugs out.

I would loosen the starter and see if it will crank over. If it doesn't crank, I would remove the starter and see if a pinch bar will move the engine and I would squirt some engine oil into each cylinder. It may have washed all the oil from the sleeves when it was running rich. Hal

Stuck starter and junk under the needle valve in the carb. Don't condem it, just loosen the starter to free it, and fix the float/needle. My two cents.
