I have heard that both the Navy and the Air Corp/Air Force purchased both I-4's and I-6's for use as aircraft tugs both during the WW-2 and Korean War eras. Does anybody have pictures of these tractors in this role in their old pictures archives?

Don't know about the Navy or Air Force, but since I was in the Army the Farmall A's were painted olive drab green. We had dual wheeled Case tractors for towing big artillery guns to the firing ranges too. I guess it was who the
lowest bidder on the contract was. Hal

to add to the I-series tractors used as aircraft tugs, the international A was used. I have a friend whom's father is a korean war vet. he said that International A's and Allis B's were used to pull smaller single engine planes and misc. maint. equipment. The I-series tractors were used to tug heavier multiple engine planes. he actually purchased one of the allis b's after they were surplused out. he said all of the ih tractors were industrial models, painted the normal red(some being yellow), and had military insignia stenciled onto the hood. I will ask him if he has any pictures that I can borrow in order to post them. P.S. while we are on the subject of ih and the military, ih produced a number of M1 Garands as a sub-contractor for the government in the 1950's. i wish i had a nickel for every time someone asks me why i have a rifle in my curio along with a sea of red IH stuff. most dont believe me until i take it out and show them the IHC markings on the reciever!

At Greenville Air Base they were either yellow or orange. I don't know if they were I-4's or I-6's. Also don't know if they had International decals of hood as well as AF stencles or just the AF stencles. Never saw them up close and was only on the base once or twice when it was active.
