I went into the dealers this week to pick up a valve cover gasket and they had a 1066 Turbo setting there so I climbed all over it, then asked the question..$8900..what's the absolute bottom price?...$7000 if they don't have to truck it etc. Well the tractor has decent rubber all around, the rear rims are rusty but I think would paint up,tractor is mechanically good according to "them" but the cab is another issue. It is rusted at the bottom corners and inside is about as rough as a cab could come. I know it can be redone but I wonder at what cost? I would hate to offer them $5000 in case they took it and then as the great Mark Twain said "you'd have to do it cause you said so" I thought it would be a good unit for blowing snow and maybe some plowing at some point. What is a nice clean 1066 going for these days? I have a feeling that if I bought this unit I would have the price of a good one in it and more befor I knew what was happening. I guess it raises the issue about big horsepower tractors once they are old and obsolete..who wants them , what are they usefull for ...Mike in Exeter Ontario

Hey Mike,

A good one will fetch anywhere from your 7 figure to 10K.

The trouble is, and for some reason those big tractors need to be worked 'er they are gonna fade. If they are runnin' and pullin' hard, seems like these things last forever.

However, if you do have a use for it, seems to me that 7 to 10 thousand dollars is cheap horsepower, but I sure don't think I'd put a 1066 on a snowblower; a plow or chisel yes.

Just my thoughts,

Allan

Allan Buddy how are ya! I've seen some decent 1066's for around $10,000 that look real good in cared for condition and I wouldn't mind paying the price but this ole gal needs a lot of work to bring it up to standard. As for the snowblower...just carry lots of shear pins!! I was just tire kicking I guess but if was real cheap..who knows what I'd do...take care out there winters coming, been cutting lots of firewood, you Nebraska boys take care..Mike in Exeter Ontario

Once i get a bit older and some more $$$ i"d like to get a 1066, well first a SMTA then a 1066. What if you just take the cab off and get an extra pair of insulated coveralls?LOL. I called a guy On monday night bout a smta that was in the Ontario farmer, Strong engine, good ta, pulley, lots of hydraulic power, brand new seat and battery box, w\f, draw bar all re straightened. Once he was done sayin all that i asked how much? He said $8700, i said ok, he said is that to much? I said i got to save a bit more money, the guy said he wouldn"t take $6000 for it, and it didn"t even have paint on it! He said he had one just like it but all painted up, and an interested guy walked away from $12,500, wow i wonder why!?!?!?!?! If i had $8700 and had to pick between that mta and that 1066 i"d take the 66. Thats cheap HP. Does that dealer have a websight with a pic?

Mike, is that price U.S. dollars or Canadian dollars? $7000 U.S. wouldn"t be bad if you know it"s in good mechanical shape. Like you say, it"s easy to spend twice as much as you paid for it and then some on repairs. Gotta remember that you can only do so much on these big tractors yourself unless you"ve got the equipment to test them and safely handle the large parts.

Mike: I saw that too the day I was there, didn't give it a second look. One was enough. If they gave it to you, it might not be a bargain, unless you intend to run oposition to Steve R.

Unless someone has done it, that tractor could gobble up $10,000. worth of parts so fast, you wouldn't have time to blink. $2,500. tops. 23 years ago my 1066 gobbled up $10,000 and we never got behind the flywheel, going from front to rear on tractor.

Watching YT discussions we are seeing all nature of transmission-hydraulic-TA-PTO problems guys with new 1066's never heard tell of in the first 15 years. It would seem to me these problems are not hours of service related, but rather age of tractor related. My tractor clocked up 10,000 in the first 8 years, and never had any of these problems guys are talking about on 5,000 hour tractors in 2005.
