This sounds crazy, but it happens on my 300U

It is hard to shift out of gear when there is a load on the tractor. If I drive the tractor without scraping or loading or putting any external force on the tractor, and use what little brakes I have to stop, the clutch releases and it shifts fine. If I have scraped or I am pushing dirt and shove the clutch in the tractor stops fine but it is hard to get the thing out of gear. Once it is out of gear it is real easy to put in another gear and go. What’s the deal? I know that I need to adjust the TA, but right now the clutch lever does not even attempt to move the TA lever and the planetary gears should not be in the picture. Does the TA clutch need to be released every time the clutch is depressed?
Thanks,

That sounds real encouraging, I’m headed home to adjust it now.

Joe: Your Clutch and TA must be adjusted in unison. Only one way to go, get a manual, go by the book and exactly to the letter, close doesn't count even a little bit when adjusting these. Failure to do this will be as Jim said, and the price tag wont be cheap. Will badly spoil $1,000. bill and maybe a few smaller bills with it.

And yes, when properly adjusted clutch pedal will release both clutch and TA at the same time.

YOur T/A linkages need to be adjusted. When the T/A is in the high side, the one-way sprags will not allow the t/a unit to "slack off" to allow your slider gears to work properly. The T/A needs to shift to the low side whenever the clutch pedal is fully depressed. If you'll notice, I'd be willing to bet that next time you have a hard time shifting gears, reach over and pull the T/A handle back and you'll be able to shift without any effort at all...

Adjusting the TA is the answer in my opinion. There is interplay with the TA and the release of the tension on the driveline. Running it out of adjustment is a costly way to go. If it still does it, the TA adjustment was still needed.

A clutch adjustment (especially if there is more than 2 inches of freeplay will also cause the symptom.
Good luck JimN

Ok, so the TA clutch is supposed to release when the clutch is depressed. TA ajustment top priority, other than honey dues. Thanks guys,

Thanks to all, ajusting the linkage solved all shifting problems.
