I ground the cover plate back to true flat and am ready to reassemble. The gasket kit has 2 pump cover gaskets in it, both .003" thick. I'm thinking I only use 1 of them. Correct?? Just checking with those of you in the know.

Thank You,

One gasket, then make sure the pump turns freely.
Two gaskets will increase the clearance and reduce available pressure. To check the real clearance you can use a thin square 1/2 X 1/2" of pop can aluminum measure its thickness, some is as thin as .001" (Coors cans) then place it in the pump between the side of the gear and the cover and tighten the screws by hand if they can be snigged up gently, and the pump still turn the clearance is greater than the shim (can piece) Pumps can have as little as .0005, but .001 is more likely. .005 is too much.
Good fixing, JimN

Scott, do you have a service manual? I have not done that particular repair, perhaps someone else can help, but the clearance between the gears and the cover is supposed to be .0035-.006 inch.My guess would be that if the gears were rubbing against the cover that you need two gaskets -- but as I say, I have never done it---

The one thing I lack for this machine is a full blown service manual. I've been doing most of it from past mechanical experience and educated guess work. I have the original owners manual but it doesnt get into these details. .003" clearance sounds right to me, was just checking with everyone else to see what they do.

Thanks CNKS,
