Now it shows charge at 1/2 or less throttle, but drops to 0 above that and then the motor kills. When you turn on the lights at any rpm it drops to -15 and kills the motor. Any ideas? I've had no luck so far trying to figure it out. Generator bad? Thanks for any help!

Do you have to jump start it or does it start with that battery?? If you are jump starting it then you have 2 problems I think. One is bad battery and the other is your chargeing system isn't working right. You may also have a short some where which is killing your power. A good battery with a good charge will run a tractor for hours.

It starts right up with the switch, runs for a few seconds and dies. It no longer shows it's charging on the guage. I did replace the regulator and some wires that were in bad shape.

I'd try a hot wire from the battery to the coil. If it stays running that way you have problems from the coil back. If it does the same thing you have problem from the coil in to the dist. It maybe a bad switch and or wires.

If you"re running a non-mag system your battery may have a short in it. Not holding enough juice to run engine. One other thing I always try. Run the engine at half throttle and disconnect the ground battery cable. If the engine keeps running the generator is working. And that"s all I have to say about that....
