Installing rear wheel weights

I have a 504 and I recently bought some rear wheel weights. I was planning on putting two sets (4 weights total) on each side. The weights are kind of curved on one side and kind of flat on the other side. The wheel as it is installed on the tractor is concave outward. How are the weights bolted on the wheel? Is the first (inside) weight curved side in or flat side inward? Is the second (outside) weight curved side on or flat side inward? It looks like the inside weight can be bolted to the outside weight. Is it? Are the bolts anything special, like high strength grade 8? Is there anything else I need to know. Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you have the one piece 145lb round weights. I don't think anything is written in stone but I put them on with the rounded side facing in. That is with the cast center dished outwards. I then put the rest of the weights on the same way. You can use normal threaded rod to hold them on. If you use your 504 for pulling I would make a bracket that bolts on the cast center and then you can just slide the weights on it. Makes it much easier for puttting them on and off. If you want more info on how I made my bracket, let me know.

Cheers!

Sid

Actually I have the two piece weights. Is the mounting direction (curved side in) the same for the two piece weights as for the one piece weights?

Farmer Sid is right on. Most times the curved side is mounted into the curve of the wheel and subsequent weights are mounted in the same direction. The flat side generally looks better -has fewer casting errors so looks a little dressier IMHO. Orginal bolts were square headed and locked into the square recesses in the weights - good luck finding those. Not required. Weights can be attached to previous weights by two or four bolts. Install them so that you still have access to hub attachment bolts. My nickel Dick Davis

Yes, two-piece weights mount the same as the full round 1-piece weights. Only reason IH made the 2-piece weights was so You could mount weights inside the rear wheels without having to remove & reinstall the rear wheels. Plus 75# is a lot easier to handle than 145#.
