Farmall H not running quite right

I don't think my Farmall H is running quite right. It seems every once in a while to slightly miss or hesitate for maybe a split second while running at a set speed. Also, when I lower the throttle setting from high, it sometimes pops a little (pop or pop pop). I just rebuilt the carb. I have maybe 5 hours on the plugs, wires, points valve adjustment, roter, governor rebuild (Mine has the rocket governor) etc. I was thinking maybe the rocket governor maybe corrects it a little too fast. Thanks!!

It's probably the advance mechanism in the distributer. the springs could be weak, or the weights are rusted up.

Make sure the ignition timing is set AT or just AFTER top dead center when at cranking speed. If timing is advanced too much it may cause exhaust popping and kick-back while trying to start the engine. Many old timers had broken arms or wrists to attest to that fact. These slow running engines don"t require much timing advance while running compared to a car or truck engine that runs at 3-4,000+ RPM"s.
With the engine warmed up and idling, re-adjust your idle mixture and idle speed screws for best operation. Run at fast idle (wide open throttle, no load), turn high speed mixture screw in & out to find the "sweet spot" halfways between rich & lean. Turn the high speed mixture screw out 1/2 to 1 turn to allow a little extra fuel for pulling a load.

John, I have noticed the same thing on some of my machines. I have reduced the frequency of it happening by resetting the points and timing, but have never completely eliminated it. I have considered trying an electronic ignition on at least one tractor just to see if It is the ignition, but haven't talked myself into spending the $100 bill to replace to points.
