Yesterday, while doing some bush hogging I noticed the transmission oil pressure light on my 574 starting to flash on. It happened especially if it was lugged down a little. I checked the fluid and it seems fine. If I increased rpm beyond PTO speed a little, it would go out. Ill get a new filter tomorrow but dont know if this will cure it. Any speculation as to the cause. I installed a beeper on the parking brake so i wouldnt leave it on, so dont think its a problem now. I run amsoil sythetic oil in it. Tim

If the tractor has about 2500 hrs. on it i am starting to see a trend with the 574s. the hydralic pumps are worn out i had to replace them in 2 574s in the past month and other guys said they are having the same problem. the other possible thing that it could be is if it is a early model the oring and gasket between the mcv and the plate blow out and you loose a lot of pressure.

My 574 has done the same thing for years. The reason that the PTO use relates to the hydraulic pressure light is that the independent PTO is hydraulically acuated. Mine will start flickering the light on dimly after an hour or so of steady PTO work in hot weather and will continue until it pretty well remains lit. When it does this, I can detect no diminished power in the hydraulic system. At first I changed the HyTran fluid and the filter with no change in the situation. My mechanic and I theorize it is just the pressure switch weakening with time and cycles of heat and pressure.

I normally run the PTO at a slightly reduced speed (about 1700 RPM) and usually don't run mine more than about 3 hrs continuously. Its been doing the same thing for years now. I've threatened to go get a new switch and change it out. It appears in the shop manual to be located on top of the transmission just below the front of the seat.

I had been using it for several hours when it acted up and it was a fairly warm day. I was doing some unusually heavy areas on the neighbors property too so it was getting a good workout. I used it again today and didn’t notice it come on even once but only used it for a couple hours. I too, noticed no other symptoms or decrease in power. Just the light flickering. Thanks for all the responses.

Hi Tim, it could be as simple as a bad sensor which is located under the seat with 1 wire on it or more serious is a weak transfer pump in the transmission.

Search Archives for: Gearbox oil pressure warning question on IH 484

Bernard le mencano gives an explanation and method for replacing transfer pump.

On my brother's 684 it was a bad sensor.
