Seeing Kevins pics reminds me,did anyone notice the writing on the mounted corn picker on the F12? Just think some farmer may have wrote all of that before some of were born!

Yep, lead pencil seems to last well. In the house that was my grandparents, there is a note under the stairs where the carpenters wrote the house was completed in 1915. 'Course that is well protected and not in the weather.

lead pencil on galvanised metal seems to endure forever. There is an old Woods Brothers thresher down in the pasture and someone has written My darling you are growing old like threads of silver among the gold
If you don't do better another year, we will be saying goodbye my dear.

Maybe the operator wrote that while he was waiting for someone to bring repairs.

I have an old corn crib on my place that has lead pencil writing on one of the wood interior walls. I would guess it is from the early 50"s and it is mostly ear corn load data and things the farmer wanted to remember. When I stop and read this it always takes me back in time.
