Our Farmall M was stuck running in 5th gear. We took the top off and checked the trans aligning the forks and gears. Now, after restarting the entire tractor is locked-up and acts like the parking brake is set, which it isn't. What should be the next step.... HELP

Well we cracked the M open again and it was a stuck, gunked up ball berring and spring in the third, gear 4 and 5, rod that was not working. Thanks to everyone for you help and advise.

Tx,
I believe, but do not know, that the first issue (stuck in 5th) was due to a worn tip on the shifter lever. There are several posts in the archives here on how to weld it up and grind it to size. The Opinion of Nebraska Cowman is on target with the rest of the problem.
Take out the shifter lever, look inside and use a screwdriver to line up all the slots. If it rolls, it needs the tip fix above. If it is still stuck the forks were not on the gear collars/grooves. Must have the cover off again.
Good Luck, I hope it is just in two gears at once at the lever.

sounds like you have it in two gears, maybe 3 if that's possable. Make sure all three shifter rails are centered. or else someting is broken?
