Well I have a galion road grader that has an engine that is like an engine used in the 560s. Well today I was running it for say an hour when it started to loose power and then just died. Yuo can get it to try to start but it just will not. I'm thinking thats a classic coil problem but would like other ideas as well. I know its getting gas but not sure about spark since its hard to trun the key and be at the engine at the same time and what is worst is I'm home alone for the next 2 weeks. Guess maybe I should see how many more tractors I can drag home before the wife gets back. LOL

Hi Old, You can check for spark yourself by removing the distributor cap and remove the coil wire from the cap and hold it within 1/4" of ground. Turn on the ignition switch and with points closed, snap them open and close a few times and see if the coil wire is firing nice. Does it start after sitting for awhile or when it cools off? No fire present probably a weak coil.
Hal

Well yes no and sort of. I have medicare but not because of my age. I'm a D.A.V. but what happened in the service didn't make me retired but I had to retire because of a crime and the guy that did it never saw a jail ceil. But any way I'm disabled and just play with the old tractors so I don't have to keep going to phyical tropy ya I spelled it wrong. I prefer to call it Pain and trocuer

Old, I hope you are getting more rain down your way than we are up here (Hannibal) I have seen two codensers act just like bad coils. One was a 1968 Chevy and one was a 1972 Ford. Good luck kjm
