I can't find 15" rims for my 560 Diesel to mount 16.9-38 tires on. I'm afraid I will be disappointed with a 14" rim and I don't know if 16" rims will present a problem. Anyone tried either of these arrangements? What's your opinion?

I've never seen a 15", just 14 and 16. I'd sure think you'd get along fine putting a 16.9 on a 14 inch rim. I have a neighbor with 16.9s on a 656 and I would almost bet that they are on 14" rims and he gets along with it just fine.

Lance: I take it the 15" rim is not available. Where are you situated? I know there are 15" rims floating around here. I've seen several sets at auctions this spring. One interesting note, they all had yellow paint, but the same double mounting ring as on your 560. If your close enough and you wish, I can ask a few questions. The rims I saw were in excellent condition. Most of them had decent tires as well.

Another item you might check out is 16" rims and use 18.4 tires. I saw a set on a 656 once, not a lot higher than the 16.9 I had on my tractor.

Ilive near Fort Dodge, IA in North central Iowa. I think 18.4-38 would be too much since I'm going to pull a 4-14" plow. I do plan to load the tires since I will have a loader and tires with fluid seem to pull better in an occasional tractor pull.

Lance: Your probably right, 18.4 with chloride would be quite a heavy load on that power train. Also plenty wide for the 14" furrow.

I'll make a couple of calls, see if ther are any good 15" rims around. It would be a 6 hour drive up here. Might be a bit far to justify.

Hugh, Where are you at? I wouldn't be too concerned about 4 to 6 hours of driving if that's what it takes to do it right. I'm thinking a 16" rim is just a little too wide for a 16.9-38 tire.

Lance: I'm just across the border from Port Huron MI, about 40 miles from the border. The town is Strathroy in Ontario. I was a bit late on Fri. to get hold of anyone that could tell me what is available. Ontario Used Tractor Parts was one place I was thinking of. He usually has a good supply of both new and used. There is another place to the south of me about 20 miles. I was there one day looking for items myself, big supply of 38" rims and tires all shapes and sizes. I have an idea he specializes in changing tractors from 38" to 42" and 46" tires. There were those high narrow tires and rims around. Also a big supply of what looked like take offs from tractors not very old 15.5x38, 16.9x38 and 18.4x38. We quite regularly see these going through auctions around here, and with decent tires on them as well.

I probably wont find out much until Mon. now. I'll send you an e mail if your is exposed. If not send me one so I can reply.
