if you want a bigger engine, a 301 gas or diesel from a 715 combine would be about big enough and it would fit. steve

That suggestion will wake up a 656 for sure! Lots better HP and torque, and easy to swap out. Im not sure if the 656 bellhousing is the same as the M, maybe smaller maybe the same,,, I cant remember. I do know, that you can bolt a M engine plate on the back of a 436 by the top 2 bolt holes where it would usually bolt intothe M bell. Just have to drill the bolt pattern for the bigger engine, or use one from the 1066 if the bellhousings are the same diameter. On the 856's and this conversion,, the flywheel off the hydro's will work on the 436, and be able to use the 806-856 clutch and pressure plate. Chad

The clutch/flywheel might be the hard part. 656/666/686 had a 10 1/2 inch clutch, 10's had a 14". Might be able to use a flywheel from a 312 out of a 666. You'll also need to figure out the frame rails.

anything is possible but i don't think the tranny or rear end will take the power, especially if it's a hydro.

I'm with casy. I don't think the rear end will not hold up. The 6x6 tractors generally shared the same engines with the 706 and other larger frame tractors. If turned up can it's stock enging will put out a lot of HP and torque. Look at the olivers with a 310 or 301 (wasacka - spelling ??) engine pushing well over 100 hp.

I'm thinking a D-312 (the smaller sister to the d-414/436/466) would be easier to install and put out more hp and torque than the trans could handle. The D312 only turned at 1800 rpm (69 pto HP)in the 666/686 and d414 was up arount 2400 rpm.

Just turning up the injector pump and you;ll have all the power you want even without a turbo.

Remember you basically have an M rear end in that tractor. It's real reliable but close to it's limit in hp
