Drained about four gal. of hy tran out of the right side finial drive. It was full enough to be leaking out of the grease zert on the end of the casting.

Why do you think this happened---?? Gravity from side hills, internal leak with brakes, brake lines or hyd pump? No leaks showing on the outside of the tractor by the Hd Pump or by the Brakes.

An old timer told me that draining the finial drives down each season was standard procedure. I have never heard that before. What you guys think?

Thanks

Danold. Let me put the right spin on this. On the 06's 56's 66's the axel housing was seperate from the rear end, they had won check and fill plug. But the oil would work it's way out into the axel housing and fill the axel housing. So back in the 70's the last I heard was to drill a hole in the rear end housing if the axel housing was off for some reason. The fact that you have a full housing does mean you have a problem.

yeah our 1066s had no seals between inside of the rearend casting and the axle housing just open (flow-through) bearings

the oil is leaking into the axle housing through the inside brakeshaft seal from the center housing. you could just drain the fluid out every year or remove the pto and knock out the inside axle plugs. these plugs were eliminated during the 56 series and no longer used. the final drives and differential could all be checked at the dipstick. steve
