As time goes on, I have to keep the choke pulled out part way even when the motor is warm. Otherwise the motor sputters/ misses. Am I too lean? Can"t seem to find my manual. Thanks, Gus

I have struggled with the very same dilemma for 2-3 years. The carburator on mine was cold even on a hot day. In preparation for snow plowing someone from Minnesota told me how to make a pre-heater, this helped immensely.
Of course getting the carb adjusted right is the first thing that helped. I finally found someone skilled in tuning mine and it made a world of difference.
I also turn off the gas and let the carb run dry when I shut down for the day. Maybe an unneeded precaution, but I don't want to tear the carb apart again if I can avoid it. The float is working well and I don't want to ruin it.
Just some thoughts. I recieved alot of help on this forum that was great.

Definitely something wrong. After carb rebuild,my 300U doesnt even like any choke to start much less after it starts.I can idle it down to a low lope right off the bat.I bet it hasnt run this good since '55.New coil, wires, cap, rotor, plugs, electronic ignition and other items sure must also have a hand in that...

Try opening the main jet adjusting screw by turning it CCW. Your carburetor is set too lean
when you need to choke the engine after the engine is warm. Hal

Sounds like fuel restriction. May need to disconnect the fuel line and ensure the fuel screen is clean at the carb. Also, could blow compressed air back through the line into the tank. The fuel should flow out of the tank very fast.
