I am just dense when it comes to electricity. Purchased a nice voltmeter for my H, and want to wire it in. Where should I connect the leads?

What good is the voltmeter going to do? You should have an ammeter in the charging system not a voltmeter.

Ever noticed how that way too large scale ammeter barely moves? My opinion a worthless guage, more of junction block, ha ha. Voltmeter will indicate more accurately what my alternator is putting back into the battery.

Arod - If your tractor is negative ground, connect the voltmeter "+" terminal to the switched (coil) side of the ignition switch. Connect the "-" terminal to a good ground.

(For a positive ground system simply reverse the connections at the voltmeter...)

Are you sure he didn't buy an ammeter?

Nope! (My wiring instructions will NOT work for an ammeter...)

OEM stands for original equipment manufacturers. No such thing as an OEM voltmeter on an H. They didn't have volt meters. Ed

OEM is also an aftermarket parts co that sells replacement ammeters.

Arod,

Just connect it across system voltage.

An ammeter would be wired in between the battery and the alternator/fuses. (The starter circuit shouldn't be run through it)

Voltmeter would be between the battery and a ground.

I would break the circuit of either with the key. If I had a picture I'm sure I could explain it much simpler.
