Hey Guys, I have a 44 H that has steared hard for years and I am going to be fixing it up a little before doing a paint job on it. Was told once that there is some kind of a washer that can get squashed in the bolster that makes it difficult to steer. Is this true and how much of a job is it to change out those parts. Thanks in advance.

Could be the thrust bearing (an axial ball bearing at the bottom of the pivot shaft that bears the weight of the front end) has failed. Or as I found with my Super H the thrust bearing was installed without a required spacer. Stiff steering is the result.

Not difficult to dissassemble/repair, though several of the parts are heavy. You'll need an engine hoist, loader, or similar to handle safely.

Punch below for a few pix from when I did my SH.
