Parts are still available for the DVT-800 engine.

But you better hold up a bank on your way to the dealer...lol

Last set of sleeves and pistons I put in one ran over $900.00 a hole.

That engine weighs close to 6000lbs, so you better have the right equipment to handle it.

The engine itself was not all bad, very heavily built and extreemely well balanced.

But, in farm tractors the chassis lacked proper radiator capacity and the engine air intake systems were a joke.
So many of those engines expired needlessly when a air filter plugged up.
Once the air filter plugs the motor will pull the oil up out of the crankcase and burn it....once the crankcase is dry...BANG...and out goes a rod through the side.

Best thing to do is cut a hole in the hood and stick a 6" (at minimum) pipe out with a precleaner up on top.

Most of those tractors are repowered with either a Cummins or Cat engine...the frame has to be extended to fit the 6 cylinder engine in...but you end up with a cheap, inexpensive and easy to service tractor when you are done.
Transmission is Spicer, drop box is Steiger & the drive units are standard IH.
So .... parts are available anywhere quite reasonably.

I didn't know IH made a motor that big. Or is it a cummins? cummins dealer may be cheaper if it is.

No...

That is a IH engine, not a Cummins.

Those engines were used to farm tractors (4568, 4586, & 4786)and to the best of my knowledge... some payhaulers, some payloaders, a couple of scrapers, and a few trucks.

No cheap way out on this one I'm afraid...

I didn't know IH made anything that big. Until now I thought the new dt570 truck engine was their biggest. Maybe we need one of those in the 1566 for chopping.
