I just bought a IH #25V Sickle Bar Mower. Posted these question on implement alley but didn't get any response. How can I tell what year I have? Does anyone know where I can find a replacement belt and pitman stick for it? Plan on getting ready for my M but have to get it working before I can start cutting.

I don't have the parts catalog for that mower. If one of you does and can look up the part number of the belt, I can probably find the proper dimensions from a list.

Many belt suppliers can probably get the right belt using the IH part number. These guys for one:

It uses the same pitman stick as my #31, and I bought one a year or so ago at the local farm supply type store. TSC or that type store should carry them. As far as the belt I would bet that with some careful measurement like others have said you can come up with one that will work. There is quite a bit of adjustment, just remember the belt will stretch with use, so better on the short side as long as it will work. Parts are hard to come by on these old mowers as when I have mentioned a #31 mower at my local dealer I get a blank stare, and I don't think the parts cds have them listed. I finally got someone to drag out mircofiche on my old #5 hay rake and order me some teeth last year. I ordered a few extra to keep on hand. Hard to get the parts guys motivated to look for stuff for this old equipment. I am on the lookout for a parts mower for mine just in case. I have been kicking myself since the day I saw an old IH mower which had been dumped in the pile at the local scrap metal yard and I did not drag it onto my trailer for spare parts.

Use masking tape around outside edges of pulley flanges , then cut tape , lay out flat, and measure. Also measure width of flanges.

Perhaps you are looking for original parts but belts and pitman bars are "disposable items". I have a Massey mower and I go through one or two pitman bars every season. I make my own. I noticed the stock parts were of a vey light wood. I was advised not to use Maple or Oak since it would not break if something got really jammed, and the mower might get damaged. I use a good clear piece of pine and coat it with pitch when its done. I will often make 3 or 4 at a time.
You should be able to pick up belts at any auto supply place.

I also have a 25V that I want to restore. So I'm interested in finding out the same info. Would like to see a picture of your mower.

Don't know about year, but I found a pitman for mine at TSC. The belt from Case-IH.

I tried Case/IH but they said they didn't make belts for it any more. Said that I could probably find one that would work if I had the orignal belt but I don't. Thanks for the suggestion but TSC. I will try them next if I can't get one.

Just put a string around the pullies and measure it. Let the supplier know that's what you've done and they can add an inch or so. You should have enough adjustment that an inch one way or another shouldn't matter. Or take the string with you.
