What is the difference if any, between hub # 8284DB & 8284DA? Does it make any difference if the rims match the mounting llugs on the hub?

John, Per Guy Fay's IH Tractor Data Book he goes into the part numbering system used by IHC. The original part no. would have been 8284 and was later revised by the first design change to 8284A but still interchangeable with the earlier part no. Same thing when 8284A was revised again with another design change to 8284B. The new 8284B could still be used in place of a 8284 or 8284A. The hub in my M parts catalog is shown as a 8284DBX which is the 8284DB along with the necessary components to make a ready to install hub assembly consisting of the the hub, seals, retainers, etc. So to answer your question, they can be used together by engineering design and if they couldn't a totally new part no. would have been created to replace the earlier numbers with a tractor serial no. established for the change to the new hub part no. I believe these design revisions were to the hub casting for ease of production or additional strength. I hope this information is what you were looking for. Hal

John, In the post I just provided I see I left out the letter "D" following the 8284 part no. a few places. The part no. progression should have been 8284D to 8284DA to 8284DB. Sorry for the missing letter in my earlier post. Hal

I'm not sure but I have one each on my '45 M. They both take the same wheel bearings and will mount the same rim. One of them, the one with the recessed mounting holes, I think is the older one. The thick one replaced it.
