766 Transmission Oil Tell-Light...Working Right?

I recently purchased a 766 IH. The transmission oil tell light burns whenever the clutch is in. Otherwise, it stays off.

All I have found in the manual is that the light is supposed to go off soon after starting.

The reservoir is about 1 gal low (out of 20+).

What is the experience of anybody who has one of these, or a 966 or 1066? Thanks.

The lite is suppose to come on when you push the clutch down as the dump valve is working to dump pressure off the clutch packs in the T/A for ease of shifting .

If your lite is comming on when the T/A is shifted then it will not be long before you will be fixen it as there is a pressure lose some where or your pump is getting weak.

Hi Dave,

Not to worry, sometimes that light will "blink" at ya when you throw the lever.

Heck, that ones even in the owner's manual. Perfectly normal and they did it when they were new. :>)

that red light by the key? it comes on when we hit the clutch on any of out 56 and 66 series, and flashes when moving the t/a lever. All our t/a's last at least through their warranty period too.

Yea they will try and tell ya that but it is because there is a pressure lose and this happens when you have to much clearance or a weak pump if the end play on the T/A is to great then you can have a loss in the lube baffel or it got bent or a leak between the sealing rings and if his problem started AFTER work was done then SOMEONE SCREWED UP PERIOD. NO IF AND'S OR BUTS ABOUT IT.,
